3 optical illusions with Category: Bicycles
Many bicycle illusions happen purely by accident. A passing cyclist, a shadow, or another object lining up with the bike at exactly the right moment can create an image that seems impossible. Other illusions rely on perspective, where the camera angle changes the apparent size or shape of the bicycle. Because bicycles are so familiar, even a small visual inconsistency is enough to make us stop and take a second look.
A Different Way of Seeing
Although these images are fun to look at, they also reveal how the brain constructs reality. Rather than analysing every spoke, pedal, and handlebar individually, your visual system quickly recognizes the overall shape of a bicycle and fills in the missing details. Most of the time those assumptions are correct—but occasionally they create an optical illusion that’s far more interesting than the bicycle itself.
